Methods of Giving
Donors may consider numerous methods of giving for operations or
endowment including:
NOTE: The following material is presented for general information
only and should not be acted upon without qualified professional
assistance.
Immediate Gifts
Cash, Credit Card, Automatic Bank Draft, Appreciated Property (i.e.
stocks, bonds, art, etc.), Gifts-in-Kind, Life Insurance, Real Estate
Planned Giving or Deferred Gifts
Wills
A properly written will is an excellent way for a donor to remember
Elder Care and make a significant contribution. This gift is for
a designated amount, part of an estate or the entire residue of
an estate given at the time of the donor’s death.
Living Trusts
A donor may, during his or her life, enter into a legal agreement
or contract for the benefit of an organization such as Elder Care.
The donor funds this trust with assets, but retains the right to
terminate, cancel or revoke this trust.
IRA
A donor may name Elder Care as the beneficiary to all or a portion
of his or her Retirement Assets. This allows the donor to avoid
tax liabilities and to make a large gift with little costs.
Charitable Remainder Unitrusts
Created by the donor, this life-income plan irrevocably transfers
assets to a trust, which pays the donor an annual income for life.
The income is based on a fixed percentage, which is determined by
the fair market value of the trust assets as revalued annually.
Upon the death of the donor, the trust assets are transferred to
Elder Care.
Charitable Remainder
Trusts This life-income plan irrevocably transfers assets to a trust,
which pays the donor an annual fixed dollar amount for life. The
donor also can provide income for another person. At the time of
death the trust principal becomes the property of Elder Care.
Charitable
Lead Trusts With this plan, payments are made to Elder Care for
a predetermined time, after which the trust corpus goes to a designated
remainder beneficiary.
Gift Annuity
The donor transfers cash or other property to Elder Care and in
exchange Elder Care pays the donor a specified amount annually,
semi-annually or quarterly for the remainder of the donor’s
life. This gift has tax advantages and is a way to make a gift and
recieve an income for life.
Deferred Gift Annuity
The donor makes a charitable gift to Elder Care before retirement,
and Elder Care agrees to pay a guaranteed life income, beginning
when the donor retires or at any other date he or she specifies.
This program is ideal for donors who would like to make a sizable
charitable gift but are concerned about having sufficient retirement
income.
Life Estate Agreement
Donors may contribute a personal home, a farm or other assets to
Elder Care and retain the right to live in the home, or on the farm,
and use the property to produce income. At death, the property goes
directly to Elder Care without going through probate and taxation.
